A gift for my fellow bird obsessed friend on her graduation from Pratt (congrats, Madeleine!).
The idea to do stained glass in paper had always been floating around in my head, but it wasn't until I saw the new stained glass work of Kehinde Wiley at the Brooklyn Museum in the spring of 2015 that I really wanted to get my hands dirty. While not employing translucent paper, I wanted to give the effect of those thick metal lines in between blotches of color (plus I do not mind the mucha-like halo around a delicate subject one bit).
There are plans somewhere in the back of my head to make this into a series of four birds.
